Los Alamitos High School Song has been selected from thousands of teams across the United States to represent our country at the ICU World Championships — competing against 72 other nations in the world's most prestigious international pom competition.

The International Cheer Union (ICU) is the governing body recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for cheerleading and pom. The ICU World Championships represent the highest level of international competition — where the best teams from every continent compete for their country.

For the athletes on this team, this isn't just a competition. It's a chance to wear “USA” across their chest and compete for their country — just like any other Olympic-track athlete.

The Governing Body

What is the ICU?

The International Cheer Union (ICU) is the world governing body for cheerleading, pom, and performance cheer — officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Founded in 2004, the ICU represents over 100 national federations and organizes the annual World Championships.

IOC recognition is the critical first step on the path to becoming an Olympic sport. The ICU has been actively campaigning for Olympic inclusion, with competitive pom/cheer gaining momentum alongside sports like breakdancing, skateboarding, and surfing that have recently joined the Olympic program.
